Obesity and Diabetes are two of the most frequently seen diseases among American citizens. Recent studies revealing that about 61% of our American population is overweight or obese, and the majority of this same group has diabetes. Further confirming a connection is the fact that obese people very often have elevated glucose levels.

Most of the time, obese people become glucose intolerant, which makes them more susceptible to diabetes. If you are an overweight person, you should be watchful of the signs of diabetes, as well as making a commitment to getting down to a healthy weight. Obesity and diabetes are both preventable diseases, and it’s within your power to keep it from happening to you.

Changing your diet

The smart approach to preventing both obesity and diabetes is to examine exactly what you eat each day. If you’ve been eating any and everything without considering it, it’s time for that to stop. You’ll want to monitor your caloric intake and keep it to a reasonable and low level. Plan to eat a high concentration the soluble fibers like whole grains, fruits, and veggies.

Dietary experts says that eating a lot of fiber is a good way to elevate your metabolism. Because fiber gives the benefit of absorbing water, your stomach will not be sending you those hunger signals, and you’ll be feeling full until your next meal. Random and careless snacking is what causes many people to gain weight, and this is something you can stay away from when you have healthy high fiber foods fueling you!

Physical Activity

One of the best ways to avoid the deadly diseases of obesity and diabetes is to start an exercise plan along with your new healthy diet. A gradual beginning is the best way to go, and the important thing is to focus on breaking out of your sedentary lifestyle. Don’t start a high stress workout immediately- begin slowly and you’ll get the optimal results.

Start by exercising for 30-45 minutes at least three times a week. Give yourself time to adjust to your exercise routine especially if you have been leading a sedentary life before you decided to do some exercise. Note that your body needs to adjust physically so take a few days to adjust. Once your body has adapted to the exercise routine, you can increase the intensity of your exercise and bring it to the next level.
